Peridynamics modeling of cellular elastomeric metamaterials: Application to wave isolation

•Peridynamics theory is used to model elastomeric cellular metamaterials with cracks.•Cracks are used as reflectors of elastic waves.•Local elastic instability and reflection are exploited to absorb and divert elastic energy.•Novel metamaterial geometries are designed to increase the band gap.•Numerical simulations reveal unconventional behavior of metamaterial configurations.
