•Pediatric noninvasive group A Streptococcus (GAS) infections decreased during the early COVID-19 period.•From March 2022, an increase was observed, with levels above the pre-pandemic level.•This increase was observed before the surge of invasive GAS infections.•Surveillance of noninvasive GAS infections may help anticipate invasive infections.
