A generalized Benders decomposition-based algorithm for heat conduction optimization and inverse design

•Propose an alternative heat conduction optimization method based on GBD.•Optimization is decomposed to subproblem and master problem to tackle more easily.•The method applies to both continuous and topology optimization problems.•Square and circular thermal cloaks are designed by using the proposed method.
