Endoplasmic reticulum stress promotes caspase-1-dependent acinar cell pyroptosis through the PERK pathway to aggravate acute pancreatitis

•In this study, we found that ERS promotes caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis through the PERK pathway in AP, linking ERS to pyroptosis for the first time in AP.•We demonstrated that ERS could regulate AP related pyroptosis and inflammatory injury; ERS can regulate caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis and inflammatory injury in AP; ERS promotes caspase-1-dependent acinar cell pyroptosis via PERK and may be a diagnostic and therapeutic target for AP, which is important for the prognosis of patients with AP.
