•U-Pb in situ SIMS baddeleyite suggests a crystallization age of 650 Ma for the Mangabal Complex.•Modeling suggests all the rocks from the Complex could have formed from a single parental magma.•Mangabal Complex could be formed by rollback subduction and/or mantle plume, or both.
