•The migration and plugging mechanism of diverters in artificial fractures at high temperature is numerically investigated.•A CFD-DEM multiphase for the transportation of temporary plugging agents at high temperature is established.•The effects of high temperature, fracture complexity, and injection rate on the plugging efficiency of the fracture are clarified.
