Chemical and biological characterization of the DPP-IV inhibitory activity exerted by lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) peptides: From the bench to the bedside investigation

•Lupinus angustifolius hydrolysate (LPH) contains 141 bioavailable peptides with DPP-IV inhibitor motifs.•LPH reduces in vitro and cellular DPP-IV activity.•LPH peptides are capable to cross the monolayer of intestinal barrier cells.•LPH modulates the glycemia by the direct DPP-IV activity inhibition in mice.•LPH consumption decreases the DPP-IV activity and glucose concentration in humans.
