•Adamantane-modified microgel-immobilized laccases were prepared.•Beta-cyclodextrin initiates volume swelling of AdM-Lac.•Beta-cyclodextrin increases the enzyme activity of AdM-Lac.•Beta-cyclodextrin improves the kinetic properties of AdM-Lac.•AdM-Lac is suitable for storage before stimulation.
