An experimental investigation of the thermal effects in AC-DBD plasma actuator on the melting process of an ice bead

•The ice bead melting process under AC-DBD plasma actuation was studied.•The effects of discharge parameter and surface temperature were investigated.•The ice bead melted faster on the side close to the high voltage electrode.•The position of the leading edge point changed on the order of 0.5D.
