Quality of care in the oncological outpatient setting: Individual interviews with people receiving cancer treatment

•Face-to-face interviews are not richer in data than phone or video call interviews.•‘Meeting competent health care staff’ was the conceptions most often mentioned.•Participants described not wanting to participate in their care.•Participants relied on the health care staff to take the lead.
