Influence of ultra‐capacitor on AGC of five-area hybrid power system with multi-type generations utilizing sine cosine adopted dingo optimization algorithm

•A novel Sine Cosine adopted Dingo optimization algorithm (SCaDOA) is proposed by modifying the original DOA algorithm.•The superiority of SCaDOA algorithm over DOA and some conventional algorithm in terms of implementation time and solution quality is compared by taking several benchmark test functions.•As a next step the SCaDOA algorithm is employed for design of a TID controller for the load frequency controller design of a five-area power system.•The effect of energy storage device like ultra-capacitor is also tested in the said power system.•Finally, the proposed method is further tested in a five-area hybrid power system with multi-type generations by considering some actual scenarios of the system.
