•Proposed the formulae for calculating the ultimate bond strength and development length of CFRP bars in UHPC that integrated the effects of CFRP bar diameter, bonded length, and cover thickness.•Proposed bond-slip constitutive model to simulate the bond-slip behavior of CFRP bars in UHPCs with good agreement to test results.•Discussed the failure modes and residual section with periodic fluctuations of CFRP bars in UHPC.
