•LiFeO2 with a high ionic conductor could tightly immobilize the NCM811 surface.•Electrostatic shielding Fe2O3 coating prevents Oα− (α < 2) migrate outwards.•NCM@LiFeO2&Fe2O3 shows excellent electrochemical performance.
