In-shoe plantar pressure depends on walking speed and type of weight-bearing activity in people with diabetes at high risk of foot ulceration

•People with diabetes are at risk of foot ulceration due to high plantar pressure.•In 30 high-risk people with diabetes, peak pressure increased with walking speed.•Peak pressure is higher for level walking than for other weight-bearing activities.•Pressure-time integral decreases with speed and is highest for stair walking.•Speed and different activities should be considered in cumulative stress models.
