•A polyaniline (PANI) modify copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS@N-C) composite electrode is prepared.•Polyaniline yields a stable solid–electrolyte interphase, provides efficient Li+ transport.•The CZTS@N-C delivers a reversible capacity of 710mAh/g over 220 cycles at 0.5A/g.•The CZTS@N-C electrode exhibits superior capacity retention and cycle reversibility.
