A novel high-efficiency solar thermochemical cycle for fuel production based on chemical-looping cycle oxygen removal

•A new strategy to reduce the energy consumption of oxygen removal is proposed.•The chemical-looping cycle absorbs the oxygen in the thermochemical cycle.•Influence of each factor on the coupled system efficiency is calculated separately.•In most cases, the coupled system improves the efficiency by more than 30%.
