•Non-pollution fabrication of super liquid-repellent surfaces was achieved.•A robust three-level micro-nanostructure was prepared by femtosecond laser.•The as-prepared surfaces are capable of reversible wettability transition.•Self-cleaning and on-demand oil–water separation was achieved.
