Properties of dentin, enamel and their junction, studied with Brillouin scattering and compared to Raman microscopy

•Enamel, dentine and junction are organized for lifetime resilience.•Mechanical mapping could be done on dentine and enamel with Brillouin microscopy.•Brillouin microscopy highlights the mechanical properties of tooth microstructure.•The peritubular and intertubular Brillouin shifts are different.•Daily cross striation in enamel could be scanned with Brillouin microscopy.
