•An injectable thermosensitive polymeric hydrogel is obtained via the solvent evaporation drying method and the “cold” approach.•The thermosensitive polymeric hydrogel exhibits significant anti-angiogenic and anti-apoptotic properties.•The thermosensitive polymeric hydrogel is easier to make, has better flexibility for large-scale production, and could be used in clinical settings in the future.The thermosensitive polymeric hydrogel is safe and nontoxic.•Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems can be injected directly into the vitreous, target the lesion directly, and deliver drugs slowly.
