Comparison between Gradient-Echo and Spin-Echo EPI MR Elastography at 3 T in quantifying liver stiffness of patients with and without iron overload; a prospective study

•In patients with iron overload, MR-elastography with spin-echo echo planar imaging provides larger maximum axial confidence area in compared to gradient-echo.•Spin-echo echo planar imaging MR-elastography can successfully provide similar liver stiffness measurements as gradient-echo MR-elastography.•Spin-echo echo planar imaging MR-elastography provides a larger measurable area on the confidence mask in both groups with and without iron overload.
