Patients with chronic pancreatitis have increased mortality when admitted for vaccine preventable diseases

To the editor, chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a major public health concern as its prevalence has doubled when compared to 1990, and there is no certainty that its prevalence will halt at some point [ [1] Ouyang G. Although theoretical, CP decreases the immunological response of patients predisposing them to infectious diseases [ [2] Robinson S.M. Rasch S. Beer S. Valantiene I. Mickevicius A. Therefore, considering the previous assumption, the burden of vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) in patients with CP is of interest [ [4] Kolobova I. Nyaku M.K. Karakusevic A. Bridge D. As to VPDs, these involves the infectious agents listed by the CDC: Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), Herpes Zoster Virus (HZV), Diphtheria, Influenza A Virus (IAV), Hepatitis A Virus (HAV), Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Tetanus, Pertussis, Meningococcal disease, and pneumococcal disease.
