The Application of Freeze-casting Method for Fabrication of Calcium Phosphate Biomaterials.

Freeze-casting method has been developed to generate porous calcium phosphate (CaP) biomaterials due to its simple processing routes and excellent performance of products. This paper reviews recent achievements and applications of freeze-casting CaP scaffolds for bone repairment. Specific processing routes of this method is illustrated and several influencing factors of porous structure including direction of freezing, freeze temperature and sintering parameters are summarized in details. Besides, as the most important aspect of biomaterials, the biological property of freeze-casting CaP scaffold is reviewed. We also outlook the improvement in the fabrication porous ceramics by freeze-casting method.
