Study of electrical and optical properties of microwave sintered composite ferrites at room temperature

Ferrites with the compositional formula NiFe 2 O 4 and BaFe 12 O 19 were prepared by the sol–gel method. These calcined compounds were taken in weight percentages to make composites with formula (NiFe 2 O 4 ) 100-x –(BaFe 12 O 19 ) x (where x = 0, 20, 40, 50, 60, 80,100) and sintered at 1200 °C/30 min in a microwave furnace. The structures of the composites have been verified by X-ray diffraction and are found to possess no impurities. Rietveld analysis confirmed space group P63/mmc for hexaferrite and space group Fd-3 m:2 for nickel ferrite. Optical studies were also made using UV absorption and FTIR. Dielectric properties were studied at room temperature for all the samples.
