Abstract
In the hydrogen storage system, the use of carbon adsorption materials is of great significance, leading to increasing interest in cost-effective biomass activated carbon materials. This study focuses on the use of industrial waste poplar wood chips as raw materials, which can improve the added value of the resulting product, and thus plays an important role in the development of new energy sources and environmental protection. Meanwhile, the activation conditions were investigated and a biomass carbon with a high specific surface area of up to 1486.2 m2 g−1 and a significant micropore volume of 0.767 cm3 g−1 was obtained. The poplar sawdust biochar had a hydrogen storage capacity of 3.03 wt% under normal pressure, showing good reversibility. Based on the results, the poplar wood chip biochar exhibits great potential as a hydrogen storage material.
