Wire-Tube DBD Reactor for H 2 S Treatment: Comparison of Single-Mode and Parallel-Mode Reactor

In this paper, the discharge characteristics of single mode and two identical DBD discharge modules connected in parallel were investigated based on the wire-tube dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor and the effect of parallel DBD discharge modules for the treatment of H 2 S exhaust gas was investigated. The experimental results showed that the load voltage and discharge power of both modes tended to increase as the applied voltage increased, but the load voltage and discharge power of the parallel mode were lower than those of the single mode at the same applied voltage. However, the parallel structure of the DBD module was more suitable for the treatment of high flow rate and low concentration of H 2 S exhaust gas. With the DBD modules in parallel, the efficiency of the H 2 S exhaust gas treatment increased with increasing energy density for different initial concentrations. At an energy density of 1819 J·L −1 , H 2 S exhaust gas with an initial concentration of 100 mg·m −3 and a gas flow rate of 160 L·h −1 could be treated with an efficiency of 86.4%. The overall removal efficiency, removal efficiency per unit power, and energy utilization efficiency of the single mode were higher than those of the parallel mode; however, in terms of energy consumption, it is more pronounced than the parallel mode.
