Does depression in mid-life predispose to greater cognitive decline in later life in the Whitehall II cohort (vol 335, pg 111, 2023)

•We used data from a large UK study with cognitive test data covering 17 years.•We defined depression as a clinical diagnosis or a CES-D score of ≥20.•Depression in mid-life was not associated with any change in cognitive decline.•It was however associated with worse cognition at baseline and 17 yrs.•The use of anti-inflammatory medication did not alter this effect.
