Selenium Regulated Growths and Response of Nutrients in Moringa oleifera Lam Under Arsenic Stress

Abstract Root is the primary organ directly exposed to As pollutants in soil, which uptakes have a closely effect on the accumulation and transportation of As. This study is intended to investigate the influence of Se on the growths and nutrients responding in Moringa oleifera Lam under As stress. The main results are: (1) The application of selenium can promote the growth of root, while the application of arsenic can inhibit the growth of it; (2) Contents of Se and As are the highest in the first treatment and the fourth treatment, and R-As of selenite application has a decreasing change in different parts of it; (3) Contents of organic Se and organic As are the highest in the first treatment and the fourth treatment and have the lowest at the same treatment as the highest concentration; (4) Contents of TAA and proteins are the highest in the first treatment and are the lowest with the fifth treatment. Met+Cys is the FLAA in Moringa oleifera. When different selenite and arsenite are applied. Different treatments of selenite and arsenite were positively correlated with As and the organic As contents, but negatively related with TAA and proteins. Through this research, the protection of Se on Moringa oleifera under the condition of As biological stresses will be analyzed, aimed at achieving functions of As descending and Se suppling by reasonable exogenous selenium applying. It will have a great significance to assure the quality and safety of agricultural products and human health.
