Methods and Techniques of Ovarian Tissue Harvesting and Preparation Before Cryopreservation

In this chapter we will discuss how much tissue to collect for cryopreservation as well as the surgical techniques employed. We will discuss how to prepare the tissue for ovarian tissue cryopreservation including isolation of the cortex, tissue fragmentation and equilibration in a cryoprotectant and what impact the various techniques has on the tissue and outcome. Also, requirements of the laboratory will be mentioned. Note that tissue preparation differs between ovaries from adult women and ovaries from girls. It might be advantageous to centralize OTC in which case transportation of the tissue could be necessary.
