Psychosocial and Ethical Aspects of Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation in Children and Adults

The removal of the experimental label of ovarian tissue cryopreservation was a major step forward in the field, however there are important psychosocial and ethical considerations, particularly for young children (where parents are responsible for decision making) and patient populations where limited outcome data are available. In this chapter, we discuss ethical issues related to: (1) parental decision making about OTC across youth of various ages and developmental stages; (2) disposition of unused ovarian tissue; (3) OTC considerations in nononcologic populations; and (4) barriers and facilitators to OTC uptake and utilization.
