Discrete element modeling of granular hopper flow of irregular-shaped deformable particles

•A bonded-sphere DEM model developed for irregular-shaped deformable particle flow.•Comprehensive analysis of hopper flows performed for rigid and deformable particles.•Increase in particle stiffness increases packing porosity and decreases flow rate.•Simulation results matched Walker’s solution and extended Beverloo formula.
