The IUD shape is associated with the risk of device expulsion and should be considered in contraceptive counselling. Compared to the Tatum-T frame, Nova-T frame showed a similar risk of expulsion whereas the risk was about doubled for Multiload frame and frameless IUDs. Intrauterine balls demonstrated a 5-fold increased risk.
