Future prospects for the biodegradability of conventional plastics

The extensive use of plastics is responsible for the higher volumes of waste for management. Pseudoplastic polymers are largely used by human beings for their low cost, but they cause atmospheric pollution everywhere in the world. The use of plastic causes enormous and harmful effects on the environment. To control these serious issues, some biodegradable polymers are being used tremendously to replace conventional plastics. Biopolymers help reduce waste and atmospheric pollution. The excellent biodegradation behavior of these polymers shows their degradability. The rate of degradation of biopolymers is calculated with standard test methods. Conventional plastics are usually nondegradable, but some methods can make them decomposable. These plastics are not recyclable, are responsible for excess volumes of garbage, and cause some serious health problems. Nowadays, biopolymers are frequently used as packaging material on behalf of plastics. In the coming years, there will be a vast opportunities for biopolymers in many applications. This chapter describes the future aspects of the degradation of conventional plastics.
