Po184 / #771 retrograde insertion of paddle leads for spinal cord stimulation

Previous spine surgeries or areas of severe spinal stenosis in the vicinity of intended implantation of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) trial and/or permanent leads can pose challenges with associated increased procedural risks. One potential alternative is retrograde (caudal) insertion of a trial or permanent paddle lead by performing laminotomies above the targeted levels. The literature remains limited in the description of this technique with only handful of anecdotal case reports. Herein, the authors present a case series of retrograde insertion of paddle implants for SCS.
