摘要
This chapter outlines key terminology and concepts widely used in clinical practice in augmentative and alternate communication (AAC). Ten core principles of intervention are described, including the importance of recognising the diverse applications of AAC strategies, tools, and techniques; the constantly evolving nature of assessment and intervention; the critical role of multimodal communication and the fundamental importance of recognising communication as a human right but also as a means to an end, the primary goal being full participation by all individuals who need or could benefit from AAC. The chapter concludes with an introduction to the structure of the book and the nine case reports.
