Design of a Dielectric Lens Antenna with the Similar Shape of Half Maxwell Fish-Eye (HMFE)

摘要
In this paper, a dielectric lens antenna with the similar shape of half Maxwell fish-eye (HMFE) lens is presented in LTE band (1.71-2.7GHz). The antenna is realized by piling up the dielectric materials with different sizes, which contains a number of cylindrical air holes by the rule of getting smaller from antenna edge to center. With the distribution of aforementioned air holes in dielectric materials, a gradient variation trend of effective permittivity is built in both the horizontal and vertical planes. As a result, the electromagnetic wave can be transformed from spherical wave to plane wave, and finally achieves high-gain performance. Simulation results of far-field plots demonstrate good focusing properties of the proposed dielectric lens antenna. Moreover, its light weight, low cost, and easy fabrication makes it well suited for modern wireless communication system.
