Modeling of biohydrogen production by dark fermentation

Hydrogen is an exciting alternative to fossil fuels, and this promising renewable energy can be used in fuel cells with high efficiency. Several biological processes produce biohydrogen, and dark fermentation offers excellent potential for practical application such as the treatment of organic wastes. Hydrogen production by dark fermentation is a complex biochemical process, and the establishment of a mathematical model is needed to more fully understand the processes and to improve reactor design. Mathematical models enable forecasting of the behavior of the state variables and the effects of varying operating conditions. This work applies some commonly used mathematical models to model hydrogen production by dark fermentation.
