A Low-cost Shared-Aperture Antenna with Pattern and Polarization Diversity for V2X and ETC applications

In this paper, a shared-aperture antenna with pattern and polarization diversity is proposed to fulfill performance requirements of vehicle V2X and ETC applications simultaneously. By folding the patch and loading the disk, a compact and low-profile antenna can be obtained. Meanwhile, the folded patch makes a contribution to the improvement of gain at the low elevation angle while maintaining a low profile. The simulated results show that the proposed antenna has abilities of omnidirectional linear polarized radiation pattern at 5.9GHz for V2X application and directional circularly polarized radiation pattern at 5.8GHz for ETC application.
