•Violet light (405 nm) effectively suppresses MDR-bacterial growth.•The combination of violet and infra-red (850 nm) light terminates bacterial survival.•ROS generation by violet light is the mechanism of bacterial death.•Mild-heat by intra-red contributes to bacterial suppression.
