Abstract Five different plants were evaluated for their nematicidal effect through their aqueous extract (Acacia gummifera, Ceratonia siliqua, Ononis natrix, Tagetes patula and Peganum harmala). The extracts used directly on the nematods (in vitro test) showed a variable nematicidal effect that ranged between 67% and 95%. P. harmala has a similar effect than the commercial nematicidal (Vydate). Phytochemical analysis (screening) revealed that this plant is rich on alkaloids. Also, a high nematicidal effect of 84% and 82% was obtained respectively with A. gummifera and T. patula extracts. The phytochemical screening of these two plants showed a significant content of flavonoids. The extract of O. natrix and C. siliqua had a nematicidal effect against Meloidogyne spp., with 67% and 71% of mortality respectively.
