Perfusion training

Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has evolved significantly since the first successful CPB in 1953 by John H. Gibbon. Perfusion education developed from training on the job to degree programs at universities in engineering. Due to the lack of a mandatory curriculum for structured training of perfusionists we describe an approach of a structured training of perfusionists as well as trainees during the practical part of their perfusion education, and the continuous training especially for emergency situations.
