Overview of the Present Situation of LEO Precise Orbit Determination Using BDS

On July 31, the completion and operation of the BeiDou global navigation satellite system (BDS-3) with 30 satellites represents that the three-step strategy of BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) has been successfully conclusion and it can provide global navigation service now. This paper summarizes the precise orbit determination (POD) research results of LEO satellites using dual-frequency observation data in recent 10 years, and describes the development status of the orbit determination technology using the onboard BDS. In order to promote the application of POD of LEO satellites using BDS, two suggestions are put forward at last: one is to make the accuracy of BDS products better and better; the other is to make the quality of onboard BDS observation better and better by studying models and technical means.
