Biomass valorization to biobutanol

The emergent quest for biofuels has encouraged the valorization of renewable resources in replacement to depleted fossil fuels. Among numerous renewable resources, the value-added utilization of feedstock, such as biomass, represents an intriguing choice for environmentally friendly production of industrially significant chemicals, useful materials, and biofuels. Biobutanol is the latest alternative biofuel having the potential to substitute traditional petroleum fuels like diesel fuel and gasoline. Due to exhaustion of fossil fuels and ecological concerns like greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, biobutanol is an eco-friendly next-generation biofuel. This chapter highlights the importance of biomass valorization into biobutanol, the acetone-butanol-ethanol fermentation method, and its recovery or potential applications in different fields.
