Coir fiber-based nanocomposites: Synthesis and application

The current chapter's successful attempt has been made to study about coir fiber and its nanocomposites. We discuss the fundamental properties of fibers how to develop it naturally and synthetic way; we also describe the development of nanobiocomposite (NBC) from coconut husk. Characterization of coir fiber with its commercialization aspects also been discussed along with its common synthesis process. The pretreatment and its advantages have also been described briefly. The results obtained from particle size analyzer confirmed that most of nanoparticles (up to 90%) having size between 15 and 140 nanometer. Additionally, results found that the unification of coconut shell nanofillers enhanced the hydrophilic characteristic into hybrid composite. Furthermore, tensile, flexural, and impact strength improved along with the filler stacking in the range of 3 wt%. Etymological study of composite through 3% of filler loading expressed lowest cavities and fiber withdrawals specified that the pressure was effectively captivated by the fiber.
