•The PLSs were formed after a long period of incubation because of the overstoichiometric (Cr, Fe)2B.•The formation of PLSs undergone the transformation from disordered to ordered particles.•The localized melt of FeAl3–Al eutectics acted as a network of liquid channels for drifting paths.
