Gain Equalized Reflectarray Antenna for High Throughput Satellites

A frequency selective beam shaping technique has been applied to broaden the beams at the higher frequency band for dual-band reflectarray antennas, with application to communication satellites to ensure equal beam coverage at both bands. The technique is based on the introduction of phase reversals on a small percentage of the reflectarray cells only at the higher frequency band. Simulated results of a 1.8 m reflectarray at 19.7 and 29.5 GHz show the potential of the proposed method to reduce the roll-off factor at the higher operating frequency, broadening the beams without requiring shaped surfaces.
