•The surface coverage of hydrophobic nanopillars on hydrophilic surface can effectively enhance the water evaporation rate.•The molecular-level insight for water evaporation enhancement is in-depth investigated from the mediated water-surface interactions and heat conduction at interfaces.•The correlation between feature descriptors of hybrid nanostructured surfaces and water evaporation are measured.
