The longest tree-ring based chronology of mass movements in Central Europe and their meteorological triggers

•A 252-year tree-ring based chronology of landslide movements was established.•The resulting chronology was a combination of two sub-chronologies.•The chronology was overlaid with meteorological data throughout.•The unique combination of data sources allowed a robust analysis of the triggers.
