Mo2N/CoN nanotube with synergistic reaction of intercalation and conversion enables high performance lithium-ion batteries

Constructing heterostructure materials with synergistic effect of intercalation and conversion reactions has been suggested to be an effective way to achieve high-performance LIBs electrodes with high specific capacity and low volume change. Herein, a novel Mo2N/CoN nanotube material was synthesized, where the CoN component undergo a conversion reaction during cycles, while Mo2N exhibits intercalation reaction feature. Moreover, the nanotube hollow structure of Mo2N/CoN not only offers more active sites and short pathway for Li+ ions and electrons diffusion, but also effectively buffer the volume change of the material. As expected, the Mo2N/CoN nanotube anode displays excellent electrochemical properties.
