Novel electrodeposited NiFeP/Zn bifunctional catalytic coating for alkaline water splitting

·NiFePZn catalyst coatings were synthetized by a facile and scalable electrodeposition method.·Leached coatings enhance the active area of the electrodes achieving more catalytic behavior.·NiFePZn system reduces considerably the HER and OER overpotentials in comparison to a NiFeP system.·Full cell test displays remarkably low overpotential of 1.65 V at 10 mA cm-2 for overall water splitting.
