•BPA altered the expression of the key steroid hormone synthesis-related genes P450scc and aromatase.•Environmentally relevant levels of BPA in utero exposure can disrupt the germ cell nests breakdown.•The mechanism of this inhibition seems to be involved in PI3k/Akt signaling pathway and BDNF expression.
